The South Central Alabama Regional Housing Authority was formally recognized as a Public Housing Authority in the state of Alabama in October, 1970. It’s areas of operation includes the counties of Pike, Crenshaw, Lowndes, Macon and Bullock. The first housing units were built in Spring Hill (Pike County) and Dozier site (Crenshaw County). In 1982 the Peachburg Road Site (Bullock County) and the Mosses site (Lowndes County) were built. In 1984 the Midway and Smuteye (Bullock County) Sites were built.

The Board of Commissioners consists of a representative from each of the five counties of operation. The South Central Alabama Regional Housing Authority administers and maintains 283 public housing units and 897 Section 8 Housing Vouchers throughout five counties. In addition to those units, the South Central Alabama Regional Housing Authority manages and maintains the Union Springs Housing Authority which houses 149 families, the Fort Deposit Housing Authority which houses 50 families and the Midland City Housing Authority which houses 46 families and 50 Section 8 Housing Vouchers.

The South Central Alabama Regional Housing Authority office hours are 7:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Closed on Fridays. Closed 12:00 to 1:00 for lunch.
